I just replied to all the girl's emails, and asked them for a confirmation of when they can help out.
Later I'm going to print a few more copies of the East Flushing flyer, and then distribute them at the library~
Follow me on my journey in earning my gold award and making a difference in my community! :) My name is Annie Lee, and I'm an Ambassador Girl Scout in troop 4570, located in Flushing, New York.

old news from 7/22/11 (that I forgot to put up)
7/22/11
- I made flyers for East Flushing library and then went to the library to distribute the flyers. Surprisingly, almost all the parents I talked to wanted their kid to go to the workshop. I'm thinking of doing this at other libraries so that I'd get more kids to come :)

Things I still need to do.
- make programs
- call more girls for help
- make magazine bowl
- make permission slips

Pomonok.
Went to Pomonok to give them two flyers. I edited it with a librarian named Lavina (put the library logo on) and then printed 25 copies each.

First flyer!
I made my first flyer today~
I went to Fresh Meadows library to give it to Jillian, and then went back later to see the changes she made and make the final version. She also gave me magazines to make the example magazine craft in~

SO MUCH TODAY :D
So this morning I looked up crafts to do with magazines, and found a bunch! Then I went to the city to see my Columbia mentor, and learned more about WTE. I think I'm gonna start drafting my powerpoint soon~
When I got back, my mom took me to four different library branches: Hillcrest, Pomonok, Bayside, and East Flushing, in that order. Well, actually we went to Fresh Meadows first, and I confirmed with Jillian what day I was gonna give the workshop, and she informed me on what I needed to do :) Hillcrest looked desolate, so we went to Pomonok, but the childrens librarian, Sharon Banks, was at dinner, so they told me to come back in an hour. So we went to Bayside, but Bayside was a super popular place, and they were booked :/ So we tried East Flushing, and it was so easy to get a room there :D and Flo (librarian) was super easy going and nice :) After, we went back to Pomonok, and I talked to Sharon. We decided on two days, one for each aspect, cause we couldn't squeeze it in on one day. This was Ms. Banks's idea. She was super helpful! :D
So now I'm all booked :)

Workshop
Goals
- Encourage to recycle

- Introduce WTE
Ideas
- Do Now: ask what they think recycling is, and what are stuff they do to recycle. (let them write it on a board)
- Recycling Activity: According to a pamphlet, pick up garbage and throw into the appropriate bin.
- Ways to turn “garbage” into something fun :D

updates again!
7/5/11 (yesterday)
7/6/11 (today)
- went to Columbia University to see my mentor, Ranjith. I told him about my project, and some ideas I had for the workshop for kids. He said it was good and advised me to look into recycling programs already present; he knew some were going on in Europe.
7/6/11 (today)
- called Cunningham park and Raymond O'Connor Park Day Camps
- The Cunningham Park man who answered was very helpful and addition to giving me the day camp number, recommended me to call Urban Rangers b/c he thought they could help :)
- Called CP's Day Camp, and the lady was rude. She said, "Oh, there's already a girl scout troop coming in, we don't need another one." Excuse me? Just b/c we're all girl scouts doesn't mean that we're doing the same project. Geez.
- Called Ray O'Connor but no one picked up :/
- I think I'm just not going to do the parks and day camps, because that mainly focuses on little kids, which wasn't my original intent.
- biked to Windsor Park Library and arranged a date to do the workshop and presentation with Ms. Julia Tan, the supervisor. August 4th! :)
- biked to Fresh Meadows Library to talk with Jillian, but she said that she didn't get a chance to talk to Ms. Julia Hua yet, so I'd have to come back tmrw~

updates updates!
Yesterday (7/1/11)
I went to Windsor Park Library to ask to book a room. A librarian told me to come back Wednesday to see Julia Tan, the supervisor.

Today (7/2/11)
I talked to Jillian in the Fresh Meadows Library, and she took my proposal and read it over. Then she gave me the name of the supervisor, Julia Hua, and said that she would talk to her. She asked me when I planned on giving the events (workshop+presentation), and I told her around early/mid-August. She informed me that the best time for the library to hold it would be a Tuesday or Thursday, but most likely Tuesday. So I'm aiming for the 2nd of August now and pushing my plans a little faster :)
